To download software more safely, start with its real publisher or your device's trusted app store. A download button in a search advertisement is not proof that the file comes from the real maker.
Imagine you want a photo editor. An advertisement offers the same name and a familiar logo. Those details are easy to copy. Find the publisher's actual website or its verified store listing instead.
Check the publisher name and the website address before installing. If you are using a work or school device, use its approved software list or ask the person who manages it.
Do not turn off security tools just because a download page tells you to. Treat a demand to disable protection as a reason to stop and check the source.
Official sources reduce risk, but no store can promise every app is harmless. Keep your device's security protection on and only install software you actually need from a source you have checked.

Put it into practice
- Start from a checked publisher website, trusted app store or approved work software list.
- Confirm the publisher and address before installing.
- Keep security protection enabled and decline software you do not need.
Check your understanding
The first search advertisement uses the app’s real logo. Does that prove its download is genuine?
Answer
No. A logo can be copied. Verify the publisher and source independently.
